Lackagh-Knockdoe Solar Action Group
A community-led organisation of approximately 200 residents from Lackagh, Turloughmore and the surrounding area.
The wider group has elected a smaller committee to coordinate its work and represent its members.
The group was formed in response to growing concern about the scale and pace of major infrastructure development proposed locally, including the Blackthorn Solar Farm, and the need for local communities to have a meaningful voice in decisions that may shape their area for decades.
Our approach
We support Ireland’s transition to renewable energy and recognise the important role solar energy will play in that transition. Our concern is not renewable energy itself, but how and where large-scale developments are planned.
We advocate for transparent, evidence-based planning that properly considers communities, agricultural land, water, biodiversity, road safety and the cumulative effects of development alongside Ireland’s energy needs.
Our aim
We want local people to be informed, represented and meaningfully involved in decisions affecting the future of their community. We do not speak for every resident; this website helps people reach their own view and take part in the planning process.
