How to make a planning submission
A formal submission goes directly to Galway County Council. This guide helps you find the official instructions and prepare your own points.
Check the official record
Find application 26/61567 and confirm the current stage, closing date, accepted channels and fee with the Council.
Explain what matters to you
Describe your connection to the area and the specific planning issues you want examined. Cite the document and page behind each point. Use your own words and only describe experiences you actually had.
Send your submission to the Council
Follow the Council’s current instructions. Include your name, correspondence address and the application reference, and pay any required fee. Contacting this group does not lodge a planning submission.
Keep your acknowledgement
Save the Council’s official acknowledgement, your submitted text and your payment record.
The Council’s general instructions
The Council’s guidance gives a €20 submission fee. Online submissions close at 11:59 p.m. on the final date. Email, post and in-person submissions must arrive by 4 p.m. on that date. Allow time for delivery and keep your acknowledgement.
Open the official planning portal ↗. If the viewer does not load, use the Council’s instructions and quote 26/61567 when contacting its planning team.
What can the Council consider?
Planning submissions should address how a proposal affects the proper planning and sustainable development of the area. Relevant topics can include construction traffic and road safety, drainage and flood risk, landscape and views, ecology, reflected light (glint and glare), and the combined effects of nearby development. Explain the particular location or effect you mean, refer to the submitted plans, and describe your own experience accurately. You can support a proposal, object to it, or ask for a change or condition. The Office of the Planning Regulator’s planning leaflets explain how to participate.
A simple outline, in your own words
Use these headings in your own document. Describe your experience accurately and check the source behind each claim.
- Your connection to the area.
- The specific planning issue and who or what it could affect.
- The supporting document and page, or your own relevant observation.
- What you ask the Council to examine or require.
Downloading or completing this outline does not submit anything to the Council.
