On 30 September, Albert Dolan TD raised concerns about the proposed Blackthorn Solar Farm in Lackagh during a Dáil debate on energy costs.
He recognised the potential of solar energy but criticised the way some developers were engaging with rural communities.
Referring to Lackagh, Deputy Dolan said residents had been told at a community engagement evening that a planning application was expected in November or December. He told the Dáil that planning notices and the application followed that Friday, leaving residents unclear about the process and feeling they had not been properly consulted.
He called for clear solar planning guidelines so that rural communities could understand what was being proposed, know what to expect and participate in a fair planning process.
