Our group speaks on Galway Bay FM

Spokesperson Sarah Murphy outlines residents’ concerns about the pace of solar farm proposals, consultation and long-term planning.

On 29 September, our spokesperson Sarah Murphy joined Galway Talks with John Morley on Galway Bay FM to explain the concerns of Lackagh and Knockdoe residents about the proposed Blackthorn Solar Farm.

Speaking on behalf of Lackagh-Knockdoe Solar Action Group, Sarah discussed similar proposals across Galway and Ireland, the worrying speed at which developments are progressing and the lack of consultation with local communities.

The discussion comes as residents raise concerns about the potential environmental, ecological and visual impacts of the proposed 93-hectare development.

Sarah also voiced fears that, without proper long-term planning and consideration, solar plants could become the “ghost estates” of the future.

Thank you to Sarah for representing our community and explaining residents’ concerns so clearly.

Listen from 32 minutes 30 seconds in the programme, in the segment “Galway Community Calls for Halt to Large-Scale Solar Farms”.
